Chapters & Flashcards
Read, answer activities, check your understanding — and turn any content into your own flashcard decks.
What is a chapter?
Chapters are interactive reading modules you work through independently. Unlike lessons (which are slide-based and often teacher-led), chapters are self-paced — you read, watch videos, answer activities, and check your understanding at your own speed.

Reading a chapter
When you open a chapter you see the table of contents in a sidebar on the left and the content on the right. The chapter is divided into sections — each section appears as a step in the contents list.
Table of contents
Lists every section in the chapter. Click any section to jump directly to it. Completed sections show a tick.
Scroll to read
Scroll down through the content. Each section flows naturally into the next.
Section complete
A section is marked complete once you have scrolled through it and completed any activities in it.
Embedded videos
Some sections include videos. Watch them to understand the concept before answering the activity.

Chapter activities
Activity sections in chapters contain questions or tasks for you to complete. These might be short-answer questions, matching exercises, fill-in-the-blank, or extended response questions. Completing an activity earns XP and counts toward your chapter completion.
💡 Pro Tip
Take your time with chapter activities — they are not timed and your teacher can read your responses. Write full, thoughtful answers rather than rushing.
Checkpoints
Checkpoints are short multiple-choice quizzes built into the chapter at key points. They are designed to confirm you understood the section before moving on. Answer each question and get instant feedback on whether you got it right — with an explanation of why the correct answer is correct.
ℹ️ Note
Checkpoints are not graded assessments. They are low-stakes checks to help you know if you are on track. Getting a question wrong just means you should re-read that section.
Creating flashcard decks
While reading a chapter you can create flashcard decks directly from the content — either by highlighting text or using AI to generate cards from the chapter.

Open the Cards panel
Click the 'Cards' button in the chapter toolbar (top right). A panel slides in showing your existing decks for this chapter.
Create a new deck
Click '+ Create Deck'. Give the deck a name (e.g. 'Unit 3 Key Terms').
Highlight text to add a card
Select any text in the chapter. A small popup appears — click 'Add to deck' to create a card from that highlighted text.
Or generate with AI
Click 'Generate with AI' to automatically create a set of flashcard cards from the chapter content. Review and save the generated cards.
Study your deck
Once created, your deck appears in the Study Hub where you can practice it with spaced repetition.
💡 Pro Tip
AI-generated flashcards are a great starting point — but review them and remove any that are too similar or not useful. Quality over quantity helps you study more efficiently.
Hints and solutions
Every chapter activity has hints and a model solution available if you get stuck:
Hint 1
A gentle nudge in the right direction without giving away the answer.
Hint 2
A stronger hint that goes further to help you work out the answer.
Show solution
After at least one attempt, you can reveal the full model answer. Use it to check your reasoning — not to copy.
ℹ️ Note
The Show Solution button only appears after you have made at least one attempt at the activity. Always try the question yourself first — even a partial attempt helps your learning more than reading the solution straight away.
