Assessments
Theory tests, projects, practicals, ATAR exam practice, checkpoints — assign, manage, and collect student work across every assessment type.

Assessment types
Theory Test
Written questions — multiple choice, short answer, matching, ordering, and extended response. AI assists with marking written responses.
Project
Students build and submit a digital artefact (game, app, website, AI model). Built-in guided steps, section guides, and tutorial videos.
Practical
Hands-on tasks — lab work, presentations, demonstrations. Teacher grades using a rubric.
ATAR Exam Practice
Timed full exam-style sessions written to match real exam format and difficulty.
Checkpoint
Short embedded check built into lesson flow — a few questions to confirm understanding before moving on.
Rapid Quiz
Fast-paced self-paced quiz students complete during a lesson activity. Scored and awards XP.
Portfolio
Grades based on overall lesson and activity completion across linked topics and lessons.
Reflection
Student journal-style response to a structured prompt. Teacher reads and comments.
Assigning assessments to a class
Open the Assessments page
Click 'Assessments' in the sidebar. All assessments for your courses are listed — filter by type, course, or status.
Open an assessment
Click any assessment card to review the task details, task sheet, marking key, and attached resources.
Assign to a class
Click 'Assign to Class', select the class, and set a due date. Control whether students can see it immediately or on a future date.
Students receive it
The assessment appears on the student's dashboard. Submissions come in and you receive a notification.
💡 Pro Tip
Set a 'visible from' date for assessments you want to prepare early but not show students yet. The assessment sits hidden until that date, then unlocks automatically.
Theory Tests
Theory tests support a full range of question types:
Multiple Choice
4 options, one correct answer.
True / False
Binary response — best for concept recall checks.
Matching
Drag term to definition.
Ordering
Arrange steps or events in correct sequence.
Short Answer
1–3 sentence response. AI suggests a mark.
Short Explain / Describe
2–4 mark analytical response with draft feedback.
Extended Response
Essay, report, or structured argument. AI marks, teacher confirms.
Creating a theory test
Assessments → New Assessment → Theory Test
Choose Theory Test as the type and fill in title, duration, total marks, and due date.
Add questions
Click '+ Add Question' and select the question type. Enter the question text, options (for MC), correct answer, marks, and an explanation of why the answer is correct.
Or import questions
Click 'Import Questions' to bulk-add from a CSV file or by pasting a PDF. Preview and confirm before importing.
Assign to class
Once questions are ready, assign the test to your class with a due date and optional availability window.
ℹ️ Note
Students can pause a theory test mid-attempt and resume later. Paused tests appear on your dashboard as alerts so you can follow up if a student leaves a test unfinished.
Question Bank & Exam Practice
The Question Bank stores all exam-style questions for your courses. Use it to build custom exam sessions or add questions to theory tests:
Browse questions
Filter by course, topic, difficulty, and question type. See marks allocation and explanation.
Create questions
Add new questions with rich text, images, answer options, correct answers, and curriculum tags.
Import from PDF
Upload a past exam paper. AI extracts questions, answers, and marks. Preview and confirm before saving.
Usage tracking
See how many times each question has been used in exams and quizzes, and its average difficulty score.
ATAR Exam Practice packs pre-built exam sessions grouped by topic. Assign a pack to your class and students complete a timed session with questions matched to the real ATAR exam format. Results and feedback are generated automatically.
Project Assessments
Project assessments guide students through a multi-stage creation process with built-in support at every step:
Quick Guide
A one-page overview of what the project involves and how to get started.
Section Guides
Step-by-step instructions for each graded section (Analysis, Design, Create, Evaluate).
Tutorial Videos
Embedded how-to videos for technical skills (e.g. how to train a Teachable Machine model, how to export a GDevelop game).
Submission upload
Students upload project files, links, or screenshots directly. Multiple file types supported.
💡 Pro Tip
For project assessments, some courses offer multiple project types for students to choose from (e.g. an AI project where students can pick image, sound, or pose classification). The student selects their type before starting — you see all submissions together in the grading panel.
Practicals
Practical assessments are graded in-class or from recorded evidence using a rubric. No student submission is required — the teacher observes and grades directly.
Assign the practical to your class
Set the date and any instructions for students about what to prepare.
Open the grading panel on assessment day
Go to the practical → Grading tab. Each student appears in the list.
Select rubric tier for each criterion
Click the descriptor that best matches the student's performance for each rubric section.
Save and release grades
Grades are held until you click Release. Students see their marks and feedback once released.
ATAR Exam Practice
Available for supported ATAR courses, Exam Practice assessments are full timed sessions modelled on real ATAR exam style and structure:

Timed sessions
Students complete questions under exam conditions with a countdown timer.
Exam-style format
Questions written to match real ATAR exam style, structure, and difficulty.
Instant marking
Auto-marked where possible. Written responses marked with AI assist.
Detailed feedback
Students see where they went wrong and why — question-by-question breakdown.
Performance tracking
Track student exam practice results over time to see progress toward exam readiness.
