Chapters
Interactive reading and activity modules designed for independent learning — homework, revision, flipped classroom, and ATAR exam preparation.
What are Chapters?
Chapters are self-paced interactive modules students work through independently. Each chapter combines structured reading, embedded videos, and knowledge-check activities with hints and model solutions. Unlike lessons (which you present), students open chapters themselves and work through them at their own pace.

Chapters vs Lessons
📖 Chapters
- • Student-paced, fully independent
- • Reading + activities in one flow
- • Built-in hints and model solutions
- • Flashcards, matching, short answers
- • Best: homework, revision, extension
🎓 Lessons
- • Teacher-led, class presentation
- • Slide-by-slide with sync/lock controls
- • Interactive widgets on activity slides
- • Lock, Present, Bookmarks
- • Best: whole-class direct instruction
Activity types in Chapters
Each chapter contains sections of reading followed by one or more activities:
Short Answer
Open-ended written response. Student types their answer, then can reveal model answer and hints.
Extended Response
Longer written task with a response template to scaffold structure.
Flashcards
Flip-card sets. Students self-rate confidence after each card (Got it / Nearly / Not yet).
Matching
Drag term to definition. Auto-marked with instant feedback.
Fill in the Blank
Cloze sentences with missing key terms.
Multiple Choice
Single or multi-select with immediate correct/incorrect feedback.
Checkpoint Quiz
A short embedded quiz to confirm understanding before the next reading section.
Video section
Embedded YouTube or upload video for students to watch before the activity.
Hints & Solutions
Every chapter activity includes two layers of support designed to scaffold learning without giving away the answer:
Progressive Hints
Two or more hints unlock one at a time. The first nudges without giving the answer; the second goes further. Students only reveal what they need and choose when to look.
Model Solutions
A full worked solution is available after the student makes their first attempt. Solutions explain the reasoning, not just the answer — they are teaching tools, not just answer keys.
Solution visibility settings
You control when students can see solutions. Two modes:
Manual reveal (default)
Students must click "Show Solution" themselves after attempting an activity. They decide when to look.
Auto-reveal after completion
Solutions appear automatically once the student completes the activity section. Enable in class Settings tab.
Open your class → Settings tab
Find the 'Auto-reveal solutions after completion' toggle.
Toggle on or off
On = solutions auto-reveal. Off = students click manually. This applies to all chapters in the class.
💡 Pro Tip
For revision chapters before an exam, consider turning auto-reveal ON so students can immediately check each answer as they work through the chapter independently.
Assigning chapters to your class
Open the Chapters tab in your class
All chapters for the course are listed. Locked chapters are visible to students but cannot be opened.
Unlock a chapter
Click the lock icon on any chapter to make it accessible to students. They will see it on their course page immediately.
Set a due date (optional)
Click a chapter card and add a due date. Students see the deadline and the chapter is marked overdue if not completed in time.
Track completion
The Chapters tab shows how many students have completed each chapter. Click into a chapter for per-student detail.
💡 Pro Tip
Assign chapters as pre-reading before the next lesson so students arrive with background knowledge. The lesson can then focus on discussion and activities rather than basic explanation.
